The Ford EcoBoost engine was originally manufactured to appeal to the consumer that is looking for good fuel-efficiency but is not willing to compromise power. It was first offered in 2009 in the Ford Taurus SHO as a 3.5-litre, V6 engine. Engines equipped with EcoBoost technology are designed to deliver power and torque consistent with those of larger engine displacement, naturally aspirated engines while achieving approximately 20% better fuel efficiency and 15% reduced greenhouse emissions than these same engines. The brand-new Ford Fiesta R2 rally car has been outfitted with a 1.0L EcoBoost engine, becoming the first car to compete in the R2 rally class with the small displacement.
