The 2018 Ford Transit has only trim selection; however, that package may be customized with a feature configuration that matches one's lifestyle. The Transit is a full-size cargo van, available in standard- and long-wheelbase models, each with low, medium, or high roof body styles. The single trim level comes standard equipped with 16-inch steel wheels, a full-size spare tire, full power accessories, keyless entry, a rearview camera with trailer hitch assist and a four speaker audio system with auxiliary audio jack. To this baseline feature package, options like long-arm exterior mirrors, different axle ratios, cruise control, rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, a lane departure warning system and a spray-in liner for the cargo area are available. Technology and electronics add-ons include Ford Telematics, Ford Sync and HD satellite radio. There is also a Sync 3 infotainment interface with navigation and a 6.5 inch touchscreen. A heavy duty trailer package is also available.

Respectable Hauling Power

2018 Ford TransitEngine choices for the 2018 Ford Transit are a standard 3.7-liter V6 with 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, an optional turbocharged 3.2-liter diesel-powered inline five cylinder engine 185 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, or a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine with 310 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Depending on the configuration, the Transit comes in 150, 250, and 350 versions that carry increasing gross vehicle weight capacity ratings. The base V6 offers respectable power, but gasoline and diesel upgrades could be worthwhile for bigger jobs.

Safety First!

2018 Ford TransitThe 2018 Transit comes with a lane keeping alert option, warning the driver when the vehicle drifts out of its lane. This safety feature is a stand-out among work van offerings. Also, the van comes with a safety canopy, protecting the front occupants' heads during a side collision by inflating the side curtain airbags. The Transit mitigates the risk to its ultratall body from crosswinds with the model's side wind stabilization feature, which automatically brakes to counteract strong winds. All these features have combined to earn the 2018 Ford Transit with a five star overall crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
