Ford has a storied history of setting the benchmark for American vehicle manufacturers. Recognized worldwide, Ford takes immense pride in delivering high-quality automobiles to its customers while investing heavily in American jobs. During the recent “ACCELERATE the Essential Economy” summit in Michigan, Ford executives discussed the ongoing challenges in the domestic economy and the company's strategies to address them.
What is “ACCELERATE the Essential Economy”?
“ACCELERATE the Essential Economy” is an impactful gathering where business leaders, policymakers, skilled tradespeople, and educators convene to address economic hardships. The second iteration of this event took place in September 2026 at Michigan Central Station. The venue's heritage perfectly complemented the actionable strategies created there. Having been revitalized by the hard work of 3,000 skilled hands, Michigan Central Station now serves as a collaborative environment for cross-sector solutions to bridge the U.S. skilled-trades gap.
Ford was an integral part of the conference, joining forces with founding partners such as The Wallace Foundation, Dycom, and The Home Depot. This coalition is championing a nationwide public education campaign slated for 2027 to attract young American workers to the skilled trades. Anchored by an Ad Council study, the campaign highlights that while 38 percent of students are open to a trade career, only 11 percent actually plan to pursue one after graduation. The coalition aims to overcome the main obstacles of educational unawareness and societal stigmas.
Ford's Action Plan
Ford and its alliance partners have developed a detailed plan to encourage young Americans to explore the skilled trades and improve their access to robust careers. First, Ford Philanthropy is expanding mobility support in communities across the nation, ensuring that a lack of transportation does not block career progress. Concurrently, Ford Pro is debuting Ford Pro Advantage—a pioneering certified pre-owned program for Class 1-7 commercial vehicles available at more than 700 Commercial Vehicle Centers, simplifying access for entrepreneurs. Finally, in conjunction with the launch of the Michigan Launchpad for Industrial Innovation & Transformation (Michigan LIFT), Ford Philanthropy and JPMorganChase provided $550,000 to Focus: HOPE, a Detroit-based nonprofit focused on job training and education.
