Ford is No. 1 Mainstream Brand in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Ford has made a major impression in 2026, earning top honors from J.D. Power as the No. 1 mainstream brand in its Initial Quality Study for the first time since 2010. By focusing on consumer priorities in connected technology, safety features, and modern styling, Ford has earned well-deserved industry acclaim.

No. 1 Mainstream Brand

Ford's rise through the J.D. Power rankings highlights significant engineering progress. Moving up from No. 15 among mainstream brands in 2023, Ford now holds the top spot overall. Jim Farley, Ford President and CEO, expressed pride in the company's achievement.

"This is a proud day for everyone at Ford and the result of years of intensive work across our company. Many doubted that an American company with a huge American workforce could compete with the world's best on quality, let alone reach the top. But we put our heads down and worked together every day to deliver for our customers." Farley added, "Today, Ford is not only the most American automaker but also the gold standard for new vehicle quality."

Thomas King, J.D. Power president of OEM solutions, noted that staple Ford models drove the brand's victory, stating, "The Ford F-150, Ford Mustang, and Ford Super Duty ranked highest in their respective segments."

With seven out of 10 Ford models earning top-three segment rankings, the brand showed exceptional depth across trucks, cars, and SUVs.
