Car Not Accelerating

Typically, your Ford has strong, smooth, and reliable performance capabilities. But if there is a problem with the engine or the mechanical system, your car's performance will suffer as a result. At first, you may notice that the problem happens intermittently or seems mild compared to some car issues. Even if that's the case, you'll want to figure out what may be the underlying issue and make repairs before the problem worsens and leads to more extensive damage that could otherwise be prevented in the first place. If you're wondering what may be wrong with your Ford, here are a few common problems that may provide an explanation.

Dirty Oxygen Sensor or Mass Air Flow Sensor

Your Ford engine relies heavily on computer-based technology for peak and predictable performance. The engine uses multiple sensors to help control and enhance its performance. One engine sensor that plays a key role in performance is the oxygen sensor. The oxygen sensor, located on the engine, ensures that the engine has enough oxygen supplies to perform adequately. Another sensor that is vital for engine performance is the mass airflow sensor. This sensor normally allows the engine to have the air supply required to run. If either sensor breaks or gets too dirty, the engine won't be as efficient.

Malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensor

The throttle position sensor is a small but critical part of the car. The throttle position sensor is part of the mechanical system. The sensor uses computer-based technology to help regulate the flow of fuel into the engine. If the sensor breaks or gets dirty, it can't determine how much fuel the engine needs, reducing the car's performance capabilities. A faulty sensor needs to be cleaned or changed.

Clogged Fuel Filter

The fuel filter is another crucial part of engine performance. The fuel filter normally traps sludge, dirt, pollen, dust, and other environmental pollutants before infiltrating the engine. When the filter gets too dirty, it loses the ability to regulate contaminants, allowing them to get into the engine and cause poor acceleration and other mechanical problems.

Dirty Air Filter

The car's engine is also equipped with an air filter. The air filter has a similar responsibility as the fuel filter, except that it traps harmful particles from the air before they find their way into the engine. The air filter also needs to be replaced periodically for top performance.
