What's New for the 2018 Ford C-MAX?

Satisfied with the product they have on the market, Ford elected to make no changes between the 2017 and 2018 C-MAX hybrid models except to drop the C-MAX Energi model from its list of products. That leaves the C-MAX as the only hatchback hybrid Ford has on the market.

An Iconic Hatchback

The 2018 C-MAX is marketed in two trim levels: The C-MAX SE and the C-MAX Titanium. As the base trim, the C-MAX SE rides on 17-inch wheels that carry the sleek looking cabin with ease down the road. LED daytime running lights alert other drivers to your presence. The windows are extra-large for excellent side-vision and a panoramic glass roof. The windows give the interior a light and airy feel. Interior enhancements provide driver and passengers with extra comfort. The car comes standard with a dual climate control system, a SYNC infotainment system with USB ports, and grille ports for air circulation. The driver experiences comfort in a 10-way power-adjusted seat and leather-wrapped steering wheel. A 110-volt outlet allows you to power your electric motor with ease. The C-MAX Titanium exterior adds painted pockets to the 17-inch aluminum wheels, a chrome grille, and fog lights. Added exterior technology include rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a motion-sensing power liftgate, and heated exterior mirrors. The interior enhancements heated leather front seats, a 10-way power adjustable passenger seat, and an 8-inch control panel touchscreen. Software improvements over the C-MAX SE are extensive. A Push-start ignition couples smoothly with a remote starting program. A nine-speaker Sony audio system provides great vibes from an HD radio system while driving.

2018 Ford C-MAX Powertrain

Both trims have the same dual motor setup with a gasoline-fueled 2.0 Liter Inline 4-cylinder engine providing 141 horsepower and 129 lb-ft torque that teams with a 118-horsepower electric motor operating off a 1.4 kWh Lithium-ion battery for a total of 188 horsepower. The combination of gas engine and electric motor nets you a fuel mileage of 42 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. In total, either C-MAX trim can travel 540 miles before refueling the 13.5-gallon fuel tank. C-MAX models accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds and require 170-ft to stop when traveling 70 mph.

Safety Features

2018 Ford C-MAX RearSafety features for both of the Ford C-MAX trims are extensive. Each has a 4-wheel ABS system that detects when a tire has stopped rotating during braking and gradually releases fluid pressure on that specific disc brake to allow the tire to move. All four wheels are equipped with efficient disc brake systems with brake assist. On the exterior, C-MAX trims come equipped with LED daytime running lights and integrated turn signal mirrors. Inside, the packages include Child Safety Locks together with an advanced seat-belt system. Software is added to increase electronic stability control and added traction control. Airbags include a Driver airbag, a passenger airbag, front head airbags, rear head airbags, and front side airbags.
