The next time you brag on Twitter that you’re good at texting and driving, you could get a public scolding from the government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The fact is that texting and driving is highly risky, and it not only endangers the person doing it, but also those around them. More than a few social campaigns have created awareness about the hazards, but there are still drivers who haven’t broken the habit, and some even go to Twitter to tell the world about it.
In a new #justdrive Twitter campaign, the NHTSA has found these drivers and is putting each one in their place. It’s surprising what people will admit to on Twitter about their (and others) bad driving habits. From behind-the-wheel snapchatters to guilty grandmas and dads who were caught texting on the road by their loved ones, the NHTSA has found a variety of tweets regarding distracted driving. See some of the company’s replies below.
In the first half of 2015, about 8.1 percent of traffic fatalities were related to smartphone use. As you can see the dangers of distracted driving are very real, so if you don’t want to risk your life or the lives of others on the road around you, stay off your phone and #justdrive.
