Ford has Produced the 5 Millionth EcoBoost Engine
The Ford EcoBoost engine was originally manufactured to appeal to the consumer that is looking for good fuel-efficiency but is not willing to compromise power. It was first offered in 2009 in the Ford Taurus SHO as a 3.5-litre, V6 engine. Engines equipped with EcoBoost technology are designed to deliver power and torque consistent with those of larger engine displacement, naturally aspirated engines while achieving approximately 20% better fuel efficiency and 15% reduced greenhouse emissions than these same engines. Ford sees EcoBoost as an affordable and versatile alternative to the power output and fuel efficiency of hybrid and diesel technologies and intends to use it extensively in future vehicle application.
This past March in the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan, ford celebrated the production of the 5 millionth EcoBoost-equipped engine. The vehicle produced was a ford Focus with a 1.0-litre EcoBoost. The team at the Michigan plant took great pride in this accomplishment in continuing to provide fuel efficient vehicles to the US.
Starting in 2009 there were 15,000 EcoBoost engines produced, which went up to 60,000 in 2010. today Ford produces over 200,000 EcoBoost engines a month! the EcoBoost family comprises of quite a few engines including a 1.0-litre three cylinder, 1.5-litre, 1.6-litre, 2.0-litre and 2.3-litre four-cylinder engines. It also offers a V6 engine option that comes in 2.7 and 3.5-litre.
