It may only be 2014, but Ford is way ahead of the game and already working on the development of the 2017 Ford Focus. Edmunds recently chatted with the company's global product and development chief, Raj Nair, who let them in on a few details about the upcoming model and told them about Ford's plans to continue to concentrate on the car's design elements. If all goes as scheduled, the automotive market could be presented with a more sophisticated Focus for 2017, which sits directly in line with Ford's global design language.

The news of Ford wanting to put emphasis on the Focus's design for 2017 comes as a bit of a surprise since the company recently introduced a revised 2015 Ford Focus model, but considering the competitive segment it is in, it's not a bad idea. According to Nair, people are often drawn to the Focus because of it practicality and emotional styling, so its design is critical. Small details are expected to be introduced to the 2017 Focus, but no official arrangements have been made.

There is still a chance that Ford could change their mind about updating the Focus's design, but if they do go forward with the plan, it won't stray far from its original look. Nair said that we'll continue to see the "sleek look of a coupe" when it comes to the Focus and it will follow in line with the 2015 Ford Mustang's styling, which is modern, fresh and still keeps to its heritage.
