The Ford F-150 SuperCab recently crushed the competition, claiming the only “Good” rating in a small overlap front crash test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). "Good" is the highest rating a vehicle can earn in any of the company’s evaluations; and as you’ll see below, no other truck model that was tested earned top ratings across the board.
Due to its scores in this and other evaluations, the 2016 F-150’s SuperCab and SuperCrew, which had already previously been tested, won IIHS Top Safety Pick awards when outfitted with a collision warning system.
According to Raul Arbelaez, vice president of the IIHS Vehicle Research Center, intrusion in the lower occupant department could lead to dangerous foot and leg injuries in competing trucks that received a rating of “Poor.” Models that fared the worst include the Ram 1500 Quad Cab and Crew Cab, as well as the Toyota Tundra CrewMax and GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab.

Both the 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCab and SuperCrew also earned overall “Good” scores in other IIHS crash tests, categories including moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats.
