Ford F-150 to be Offered in a Hybrid Model

The Ford F-150 has been an extremely dependable truck for over 60 years, it’s no surprise it’s been the best-selling vehicle in the United States for the last 32 years and the best-selling truck for 43 years. Now in its thirteenth generation, we have recently seen a radical change for a mass-market vehicle, much of the weight reduction stems the change from steel to aluminum in its body structure. With the lone exception of the firewall, all sheet metal used for the F-150 body is aluminum. This has been a great success in the way of reducing weight and increasing miles per gallon. Ford is also taking the next necessary step in saving energy and money by working to bring a hybrid model of the F-150 to the public.

Teams at Ford are working very hard to bring the F-150 Hybrid to the public by 2020 and will showcase all the power and agility the pickup is known for but with added fuel economy that is already bolstered by the truck’s new all-aluminum body. Part of the reasoning behind the hybrid F-150 is Ford understanding that greater numbers of hybrids and plug-in electric cars will become "necessary" over the next decade or so, because of demand and regulatory requirements. We here at Westway Ford in Irving, TX are very happy to see Ford continue to honor its commitment to improving fuel efficiency and sustainability.

The F-150 hybrid will feature a rear-wheel drive train and a traditional hybrid power train instead of a plug-in.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more about the F-150 Hybrid and when we might see it at Westway Ford in Irving, TX. Until then, stop by today and take one of our amazing new F-150 trucks for a test drive.
