April Is National Car Care Month

The month of April is all about car care! Westway Ford wants you to drive smart and save money. Here are some common maintenance procedures to keep your car dependable and efficient!

Battery and Cables
The battery should be securely mounted in your vehicle. Battery connections should be clean, tight, and corrosion-free. If the battery is more than three years old, it should be tested and replaced. Our team would be glad to get you in for a battery check-up!

Belts
Noise in the belt system is a sign of wear. Check your serpentine and V-belts for looseness and corrosion. Typical serpentine replacement is 60,000 to 90,000 miles. It is very important to check V-belts for signs of excessive wear. These are typically replaced at 40,000- 50,000 miles.

Dashboard Indicator Lights
If the check engine light comes on while driving and continues to stay on, your vehicle may have an emissions or sensor problem that should be analyzed immediately. If the light flashes, the condition is more severe and must be checked immediately to prevent catalytic converter damage.

Engine Oil and Filter
It is recommended that you change your vehicle’s engine oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles depending on the make and model, how you drive, and the condition under which you drive. Always consult your owner’s manual for details.

Brakes
It is important to check your brake system every year. This includes: brake pads, rotors, drums, calipers, and brake fluid. Brake fluid should be changed every two to three years, or as directed in owner’s manual.

Power Steering Fluid
If you notice your power steering fluid is low, fill it up to the correct amount. If frequent topping off is required, inspect for leaks and replace!
